Bright colours, cute characters, the thrill of the unknown. But beneath the surface, as my research confirmed, the mechanics mirror something far more familiar: gambling.
Blind boxes are designed to feel playful, but this project investigates how cheerful design can disguise compulsive behaviour. The outcome is an experiential campaign that turns blind box aesthetics into a weapon against themselves – posters, custom coins, and risograph-printed cards that borrow all the fun, saturated visual language of blind box marketing, then reframe it. A companion website extends the experience, laying out the research and inviting reflection on personal habits.
